With good cause, our common love for tacos, burritos, and all things south of the border has dominated San Diego’s culinary landscape. After all, not long ago, California was still a part of Mexico, and those ties run deep. However, in recent years, an increasing number of restaurants, ranging from diners and coffee shops to fast casual and fine dining, have realized that for some of us, sinking into a huge, juicy burger is an itch that must be scratched on a regular basis.
Balboa Bar and Grill is located across from Balboa Park, slightly north of downtown. It appears to have been there for quite some time at first glance. Balboa Bar & Grill, unlike Rocky’s, is a newcomer to the scene, having opened in 2015. The Balboa Burger and the Classic Burger are the two most basic burgers at Balboa. The Classic has mustard, while the Balboa has aioli sauce. A BBQ Bacon Burger and a Pastrami Burger are available. The Centennial Burger is a bacon-and-cheese double patty (Balboa Bar and Grill opened around the 100th anniversary of Balboa Park).
